There are four main types of fashion photography -

Catalog Photography

Catalog photography focuses on the outfit. Unlike product photography, a model is present in catalog photography. However, the focus remains on clothing and not on the model. For this reason, not many accessories or props are used and the background is usually kept plain-white. It is considered as the best fashion photography for beginners, thanks to its simplicity.

High Fashion Photography

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of fashion photography? Those elegant images of supermodels featuring on the covers of famous fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle, right? That’s high fashion photography for you! Instead of focusing just on clothing, this type of photography conveys a mood and lifestyle.

Street Fashion Photography

It’s the opposite of high fashion photography. Here, the focus is on the real world and ordinary people. Street fashion photography mainly highlights everyday wear clothing such as jeans and t-shirts. Apart from clothing, this type of photography also focuses on the facial expressions and the overall attitude of the people wearing them.

Editorial Fashion Photography

Editorial fashion photography is more like high fashion photography. It features in magazines and newspapers. However, these photos are more down-to-earth and usually have accompanying text that tells a story.
